Dáil na nÓg
Dáil na nÓg is the National Youth Parliament of Ireland.
Dáil na nÓg is the annual national parliament for young people aged 12-18 years and gives young people the opportunity to discuss issues of concern to them and to influence public policy. Delegates are elected to Dáil na nÓg through their local Comhairle na nÓg (youth councils).
The Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA) is responsible for funding and overseeing Dáil na nÓg.
Since 2003, the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), Foroige and Youth Work Ireland have organised Dáil na nÓg in cooperation with the OMCYA.
Dáil na nÓg 2009 takes place on Friday 20th February in Croke Park, Dublin. 200 delegates will discuss two topics: Physical Health and Mental Health. After their discussion they will vote on 20 recommendations on these topics.
The Dáil na nÓg Council, made up of one young person from each of the 34 Comhairle na nÓg, will follow up on the recommendations from Dáil na nÓg 2009 with policy makers in the year following Dáil na nÓg.
